got a 1/2 inch ID hose and need to go into a 3/8-18 male NPT port, is this the right barb fitting?

For fit-up, it matches a 0.50 inch hose ID on the barb side and has a 3/8-18 male NPT thread on the other end, in a straight short shank style.

fitting's made of brass, so I'm guessin it'll hold up okay for water lines and such, but what kind of jobs is this thing actually meant for?
