fitting's made from regular brass, right? just wanna make sure it ain't some coated or plated thing before I run it on a fluid transfer line

Machined from free cutting brass rod, CDA 360 alloy, no coating or plating involved. What you see is solid brass all the way through, so there's no finish layer to worry about flaking or reacting with whatever you're running through it.

got a 1/2 inch ID hose and need to screw into a 1/4-18 pipe port, is that what this fitting is set up for?

For hooking a 0.50 inch hose ID to a threaded port, this one matches that combo. It is a short shank brass hose barb on one end and a 1/4-18 male NPT thread on the other, in a straight style.
