fitting says 0.75 inch hose ID -- does that mean it'll slip onto a standard 3/4 inch garden hose, or is there somethin different about how shank fittings measure up?

Shank fittings use the inside diameter of the hose as their reference point, so a 0.75 inch hose ID shank is sized to fit a hose with a 3/4 inch inner bore. The threaded end connects to a 3/4-11-1/2 female garden hose port, which is the standard NPSH thread you'll find on most garden hose equipment. Just make sure your hose clamp is properly placed and seated, because with shank fittings the clamp installation has a direct effect on how well the connection holds.
