fitting says 0.63 inch hose ID, does that mean it'll work on a standard 5/8 inch hose or is that a different size?

A 0.625 inch ID and 5/8 inch are the same measurement, so yes, this shank is sized for that hose. The short shank design means you'll want a clamp to secure it properly since the barb length is shorter than a standard shank. Clamp placement and how tight you run it will affect how well the connection holds, so take care during install.
