got a line with a 45 degree flare seat. is this the little brass plug that’ll cap it off without me messing with tape or dope

For a 45 degree SAE flare connection, this adapter is meant to make the seal at the flare, so you do not need thread sealants to get a solid seal. It is a brass SAE 45 flare union style plug with a 0.63 inch outside diameter and a 0.875 inch UNF male end.

Hey, will this plug work okay with a standard SAE 45 degree flare?

You bet, this SAE 45 Flare Union is designed specifically for that type of connection, ensuring a solid seal without needing any thread sealants.

does this plug need any thread sealant or tape to seal up right, or does the flare handle all that on its own?

The 45-degree flare does the work here. Brass flare fittings like this one create their seal through metal-to-metal contact at the flare seat, so thread sealants and tape are not needed and honestly not recommended. A clean, properly seated connection is all it takes.
