what kind of tubing is this fitting actually built to work with? got some PT240 poly tubing on hand and wondering if it'll play nice

PT240 polyethylene tubing is one of the compatible types, so you're in good shape there. PT230 and TP160 nylon tubing are also supported. Just keep in mind that whatever tubing you're running, its own temperature rating may be the limiting factor before the fitting's range ever becomes an issue. The fitting itself handles from -40F up to 200F, but the plastic tubing won't necessarily hold up across that full spread.

This push-to-connect elbow is made to work with PT230 and TP160 nylon tubing, as well as PT240 polyethylene tubing. Just be sure to keep an eye on the temperature limits of whatever plastic tubing you're using.

got some 1/4 nylon tube already, does this elbow take that and screw into a 1/8 npt port?

Works with 0.25 inch tube OD and it has a 1/8-27 male NPT swivel on the other end. It’s made to accept PT230 or TP160 nylon tubing, and it also fits PT240 polyethylene tubing.
