fitting says it works with PT230 and PT240 tubing, does that include standard polyethylene line or just the nylon stuff?

Both are covered. PT230 and TP160 are nylon tubing types, and PT240 is polyethylene. So if you're running either material, this fitting is built to work with it. Just keep in mind the tubing's own temperature rating matters too, not just the fitting's, so factor that in when you're putting it to use in a hot environment.

Will this fitting work alright for hooking up nylon tubing in a pneumatic system?

This Eaton Aeroquip fitting is indeed suitable for compressed pneumatic systems when used with PT230 and TP160 nylon tubing.
