trying to swap out an old nipple, is this one a 1 inch NPT with 11-1/2 threads?

does this nipple use standard NPT threads, or is it something different i'd need special fittings for?

Standard 1-11-1/2 NPT threads, so it'll mate up with any female NPT fitting of the same size without any adapters or special hardware. That thread designation just means 1 inch nominal diameter at 11.5 threads per inch, which is the common tapered pipe thread spec used across most hydraulic and hydraulic connections fittings in North America.
