got a 1/8 inch port on an old compressor fitting and need something to close the gap between two connections real quick. this nipple gonna be the right thread for that?

1/8-27 NPT is the standard thread spec for 1/8 inch pipe fittings, so yeah, it'll match up with any port or coupling carrying that same thread designation. At 0.75 inches long it's about as short as a nipple gets while still giving you enough thread engagement on both ends. Brass works fine for most compressor hydraulic connections as long as you're not running into anything that would react with it.
