got a 1/2 npt port but i need to step it down for a 1/8 npt gauge line, is that what this bushing is for

For stepping down pipe thread sizes, this bushing does exactly that. It has a 1/2-14 male NPT on one end and a 1/8-27 female NPT on the other, so you can reduce a 1/2 NPT port to accept a 1/8 NPT male fitting.

Got a gauge port threaded 1/8-27 NPT on a grease manifold and need to tie in a 1/2 NPT line. this bushing work for that kind of setup?

That's exactly what this fitting handles. The male end threads into a 1/2-14 NPT port, and the female end accepts a 1/8-27 NPT connection, so you're stepping down from the larger pipe side into the smaller gauge or instrument port. This brass adapter is suitable for refrigeration systems, as well as grease, instrumentation, and hydraulic applications. It's also rated for a minimum working temperature of -65F, so it should handle demanding temperature conditions.
