trying to hook up a 3/8 NPT line to a 5/8-18 SAE 45 flare fitting and need a 90 degree turn in there. this the right part for that?

That's what this adapter is built for. One end is 3/8-18 male NPT and the other is 5/8-18 male SAE 45 degree flare, and the 90 degree elbow gives you that direction change right at the connection. Brass construction, so it plays nice with hydraulic, pneumatic, and refrigeration setups among others.

For that exact thread match, yes. One end is 3/8-18 male NPTF, and the other end is a 5/8-18 male SAE 45 degree flare, built as a 90 degree elbow so you can turn the line without taking up much room.
