Got a 1/2 NPT port on a manifold block and need to hook up a JIC line to it. this adapter gonna bridge that gap without needing extra fittings in between?

That's the job it's built for. One end threads into your 1/2-14 NPT female port, and the other end gives you a 7/8-14 male JIC 37-degree flare connection for your hose or tube assembly. Straight configuration, no elbows, so flow goes right through without added bends. Eaton Aeroquip brass construction, part of their 2021 Series adapter line, so you're getting a well-established fitting rather than something off-brand.

got a hose end with a 7/8-14 JIC flare and a port that’s 1/2-14 NPT. is this the straight adapter that ties those two together?

Connects a 1/2-14 male NPT pipe thread on one side to a 7/8-14 male JIC 37 degree flare on the other, and it’s a straight (in-line) adapter.
