does this thing work for both refrigeration lines and hydraulic setups, or is it just one or the other

Brass fits both without issue. The adapter is rated for grease, refrigeration, instrumentation, and hydraulic systems all under the same part. Fuel, LP, and natural gas use is also possible but those require a special order rather than standard stock.
