both ends on this thing are 3/8-18 male NPT right? trying to connect two female ports without a union and just want to make sure i'm reading that correct

Correct on both counts. Each end carries 3/8-18 male NPT threads, so if you've got female NPT ports on both sides of the connection, this hex nipple drops right in between them. The straight configuration means no offset, no angle, just a clean inline pass-through between the two ports.
