fitting's got female NPT on both run ends and male on the branch -- that right?

Correct. Both run ends are female NPT and the branch comes out as a male MPT. The thread size across all three connections is 1/8-27, so everything on this tee is the same size. That makes it straightforward to plumb into an existing 1/8 NPT line and pull a branch off without needing additional adapters at the tee itself.

Trying to tee off a 1/8-27 NPT line, is this the one where the straight run is female and the side branch is male?

Function-wise, it is a pipe male branch tee that connects a 1/8-27 Female NPT run to a 1/8-27 Male NPT branch. The run ports are female NPTF, and the branch port is male MPT, all in 1/8-27 thread size.
