I need to adapt a 3/4" female fitting down to a 1/2" male. Will this do the trick without any thread sealant?

Yes sir, this adapter has a 3/4-14 female NPTF thread on one end and a 1/2-14 male NPTF thread on the other, and it's designed to not require any thread sealant, which should simplify things for ya.

does this adapter need any thread sealant when you put it in, or is it good to go right out of the box?

No sealant needed on this one. The NPTF threading on both ends is built to form a pressure-tight mechanical seal on its own, so you can run it straight from the package without tape or compound. That said, make sure threads on the mating fittings are clean and in good shape before you torque it down.
