Does this fitting need any thread sealant, or is it good to go straight out of the box?

Brass NPT fittings like this one form a mechanical seal through thread engagement, and this adapter is built to connect without requiring thread sealant. The 1/8-27 NPT threads on both ends are designed to mate securely and hold a leak-resistant connection on their own. That said, some folks still apply a light wrap of PTFE tape out of habit, and that won't hurt anything.

trying to hook up two 1/8 npt lines but i need a little angle to clear a bracket. is this the 45 elbow with female threads on both ends?

For tight spots where a straight coupler will not line up, the 45 degree elbow gives you a cleaner route while keeping the same thread on both sides. It is 1/8-27 Female NPT to 1/8-27 Female NPT.
