Will this fitting work with any -08 hose, or does it have to be Aeroquip brand?

This fitting is designed for use with -08 size hose in air brake applications, so while it's manufactured by Eaton Aeroquip, it should be compatible with other brands of -08 hose meeting the same standards.

does this fitting need any kind of thread sealant when you put it on, or is it good to go as-is?

No sealant needed on this one. The PTF SAE short thread type handles the seal on its own, and the design specifically eliminates the need for thread sealants during installation. Same goes for mandrels, you won't need those either. Makes the whole process a fair bit cleaner and quicker than some other fittings.

It is a 1/2-14 male NPT hose end made for -08 hose size, with a PTF SAE short thread style on the male end.
