Does plastic tubing work with this nut, or do I need anything extra to make it fit right?

Plastic tubing does work with this fitting, but you'll need to use an insert alongside the nut. Without the insert, the compression won't seat properly and you'll likely end up with a leak. Copper and aluminum tubing go straight in with no extra hardware needed. No flaring required on any of them, which makes assembly pretty straightforward.

This compression nut is designed to work with aluminum, copper, and plastic tubing that has a 0.25 inch outer diameter. It's worth noting that if you're using plastic tubing, you'll also need an insert.
