got a port i need to cap off, is this the right kind of plug for an inverted flare seat?

For an inverted flare connection, it’s meant to seal on a 42 degree inverted flare seat with a 0.31 inch male inverted flare plug end. It also uses a 0.5 inch UNF thread, and it’s built to make a secure seal without needing added thread sealant.

Does this plug need any thread sealant or tape to make a good seal, or does the flare angle take care of that?

The 42 degree inverted flare design handles the sealing on its own. No thread sealant or tape is needed to get a secure connection. That flare geometry creates the metal-to-metal seal, so adding sealant would actually be unnecessary and could interfere with the fit.
