what exactly does one of these protector springs do for a brake line?

Brake lines run through some pretty rough spots on a vehicle, and without protection they can wear through from vibration or contact with nearby metal. This spring wraps around the tube and absorbs that friction and movement, keeping the line from rubbing against brackets, chassis components, or other hardware that could eventually cut through the outer wall.
