normally open means it stays open when the power's off, right? just want to make sure I got that straight before I wire this thing up

Correct on that. A normally open valve lets air flow through in its de-energized state, meaning no power equals open passage. When you energize it, flow gets shut off. That setup works well any time you need air moving through the circuit during standby or in the event of a power loss, which is exactly what this valve is built around.

In a normally open setup, air flow is allowed when the valve is de-energized, so it stays open during a power loss.

That's correct. As a normally open (NOR) valve, this unit allows air to pass through it in its default, de-energized state.
