What exactly are these vice jaw inserts made out of? Just wanna make sure they won't mess up my fittings.

Aluminum vice jaw inserts like these sit between your vise jaws and whatever fitting or hydraulic component you're working on. The idea is pretty simple: aluminum is soft enough that it won't mar, gouge, or scratch the surface of the part while you're torquing things down or breaking a connection loose. For any shop doing regular hydraulic assembly and disassembly, beat-up fittings cause leaks, and leaks cause headaches. Having a set of these on hand is cheaper than replacing a fitting you crushed in bare steel jaws.
