got a cylinder with a 1.623 rod, is this AN-18 wiper ring the right size or am i gonna be fighting it

Match the rod diameter and the groove OD. AN-18 is sized for a 1.623 inch rod and a 1.927 inch groove outer diameter, so it is meant to drop into that groove and wipe that rod size.

The slotted heel is what sets the SH suffix apart on this AN style ring. That heel geometry helps the wiper seat more consistently in the groove and improves its ability to scrape contaminants off the rod before they can work their way into the hydraulic system. A plain heel design can sometimes lift slightly under certain conditions, but the slotted version maintains more consistent contact. For dirty or dusty environments, that difference matters more than people expect.
