What size is this fitting exactly?

It's made to connect a -12 JIC 37-degree flare to a 3/4 inch NPT male pipe thread.

got a hydraulic line running JIC on one end and NPT on the other, this the right adapter to bridge that gap without needing extra fittings in between?

That's what this one's built for. One end is a -12 Male JIC 37-degree flare, the other is 3/4 inch Male NPT, so it handles that transition in a single straight fitting. No union, no extra nipple, just a clean direct connection between those two thread types.
