trying to hook a -6 JIC hose to a 1/4 npt port, is this the right adapter?

For that kind of hookup, yes. One end is a -06 male JIC with a 37 degree flare seat, and the other end is a 1/4 inch male NPT tapered pipe thread, all in a straight configuration.
