Got a hydraulic line running JIC fittings on one end and NPT on the other, does this adapter go from a -08 JIC male flare straight into 3/8 NPT male, or do I have it backwards?

Yeah, that's the right part for that exact situation. One end is a -08 male JIC 37-degree flare, the other is 3/8-inch male NPT, and it runs straight through with no offset or angle. Both ends are male, so you'll need female threads on whatever you're connecting into at the NPT side. If your setup has a female NPT port and a female JIC swivel or fitting on the hose end, this drops right in between them.
