i’ve got -12 StartLite racing hose on the car, is this the right crimp end for it, or am i lookin at the wrong one

For -12 StartLite Racing Hose, this is the matching crimp fitting style. It is made to crimp onto AQP and StartLite Racing hose and it is the straight version with a female JIC 37 degree flare swivel on the end.

Can this crimp onto regular hose, or does it have to be the AQP or StartLite stuff?

Both. Eaton Aeroquip built this crimp fitting to work with AQP and StartLite Racing hose in -12 size. If you're running either of those hose lines and need a straight Female JIC 37-degree flare swivel end, this is the right fitting for that job.
