need a straight union to hook two -4 jic female ends together, is that what this is?

For joining two JIC lines in a straight run, this fitting is a -04 female JIC 37 degree flare to -04 female JIC 37 degree flare union. Both sides are the same dash size and both have female 37 degree flare seats, so it is meant to connect two matching JIC-terminated ends.
