Cast-in lugs on the female coupler body line up with slots in the cam lever arms once the adapter is fully seated. You run a safety pin through those lugs, and the levers physically cannot lift until the pin is pulled. So even if someone bumps the arms or there's vibration on the line, the connection stays locked. It's a mechanical backup, not just a friction fit.
