does this coupler work with a standard 2 inch male NPT fitting, or do i need some kind of adapter in between?

Straight connection, no adapter needed. The coupler is a female cam and groove half with a 2-inch male NPT end, so it threads directly onto a male NPT port or fitting of the same size. To connect, you slide the adapter into the cam end and press the cam levers down by hand. That's all there is to it.

got a 2 inch line with male npt threads, is this the right camlock half for that

For a 2 inch male NPT threaded connection, this coupler is the female half with a 2 inch male NPT end. It is meant for liquid transfer service and it uses brass cam levers with a Buna-N seal.
