trying to tie a 1-1/2 jic hose end into a DIN 2353 S38 tube, is this the right adapter?

For that kind of mix-and-match connection, it’s a straight steel adapter with a 1-1/2 inch Male JIC end using 1-7/8-12 UN threads, and a Male DIN 2353 S38 end with M52 x 2.0 threads. The S38 callout is the DIN heavy series size for 38 mm tube OD.

Got a setup running 38mm DIN tube on the heavy series side, does this adapter actually mate up right on both ends, or do I need something in between?

Both ends are spec'd for exactly that configuration. The DIN side carries an M52 x 2.0 thread with an S38 designation, which corresponds to 38mm OD tube in the DIN 2353 heavy series. The JIC side is a 1-1/2" Male JIC running a 1-7/8-12 UN thread. Straight connection, no intermediate fittings needed.
