fitting says M12 x 1.0 on one end and 9/16-18 UNF on the other -- is that right for connecting a JIC line to a DIN metric tube port?

Yeah, that's exactly what this one does. The 9/16-18 UNF end is a 3/8" JIC male, and the other end is an M12 x 1.0 male DIN tube fitting sized for LL08 tube. So if you've got a JIC hydraulic line and need to tie into a metric DIN 2353 port, this adapter bridges that gap in a straight configuration without needing extra fittings in between.
