got a permco setup, are these wear plates mainly just to keep things from gettin chewed up?

Wear plates are there to take the abuse so the rest of the assembly does not. They add a sacrificial surface that helps cut down on wear and tear and keeps performance more stable when conditions are rough.

these wear plates got a part number C1LX65 on my old paperwork but the site shows 947-00811, are those the same thing?

those reference the same part. C1LX65 is just an alternate part number that Permco has used, and 947-00811 is the supplier part number you'll see on the current listing. Either one points you to the same Permco wear plate, so you're good to order with confidence using either number.
