Got a piece of equipment with JIS ports and I need to tie it into a SAE ORB system. This the right adapter to make that happen?

That's what this one's built for. One end runs a G 3/8 - 19 JIS thread at 3/8" size, and the other end is a 7/16 - 20 UNF O-Ring Boss thread at 1/4" size. So if your equipment has JIS-threaded ports and you need to connect into SAE ORB fittings, this adapter bridges that gap directly without needing extra pieces in between.

got a machine with a JIS port, but my hose end is SAE ORB. is this the little adapter that bridges those two?

Built for mixed-standard hookups, it converts a male JIS connection on one side to a male SAE O-Ring Boss (ORB) on the other. The JIS side is G 3/8 - 19 (3/8 inch size), and the ORB side is 7/16 - 20 UNF (1/4 inch size), so it lets JIS-threaded ports interface with ORB fittings in the same hydraulic circuit.
