got a hose with a 7/8-14 UNF JIC male on it. will this union hook that up to a Komatsu style male end?

On the JIC side, it has a male 7/8 - 14 UNF thread and that is the 5/8 inch JIC size. The other side is a male Komatsu connection with a 24 mm size and an 18 mm thread, so it is meant to bridge those two thread types in a straight union.

Got a Komatsu machine that needs a fitting swapped out, does this union actually mate up on the Komatsu side with a 24mm, 18mm thread?

Yeah, that's exactly what Side 2 is built for. The Komatsu end runs a 24mm size with an 18mm thread callout, so it's spec'd to fit standard Komatsu hydraulic connections. The JIC side comes in at 7/8-14 UNF, which is a 5/8" fitting. Both ends are male, so keep that in mind when you're checking what you've got on the machine.
