Got a Komatsu machine that needs a JIC fitting tied into it, does this union go male on both ends, or is one side female?

Both ends are male on this one. The JIC side runs a 7/16-20 UNF thread at 1/4" size, and the Komatsu side is 16mm thread with a 14mm size. So you'd need female receivers on whatever you're connecting into on both sides of the line.

trying to swap a hose end over, will this union match up to a 1/4 JIC on one side and a 16mm komatsu on the other?

It has a male JIC on side 1 with 7/16-20 UNF threads in a 1/4 inch size, and a male Komatsu on side 2 with a 16 mm thread in a 14 mm size.
