What size wrench do I need to tighten this adapter down?

You'll want to use a 28.5mm wrench on this Adaptall adapter.

adapter's got a male JIC on one end and female Komatsu on the other -- what size threads are we dealing with on the JIC side?

The JIC end runs a 7/8-14 UNF thread, which corresponds to a 5/8" JIC fitting size. On the Komatsu end you've got a 24mm solid female connection. Overall the adapter measures 44.4mm long with a 28.5mm wrench width, so it's a pretty compact unit that shouldn't give you much trouble getting a wrench on it.
