What kind of pressures can this steel adapter handle? I'm hooking it up to a hydraulic system that runs pretty hard.

Got a system running M42 x 2.0 fittings on both ends, does this adapter actually connect two metric sides together or is one end a different thread standard?

Both sides on this one are M42 x 2.0, so you're working with matching thread specs end to end. Side 1 is a DIN tube connection and Side 2 is a standard metric connection, both male. So it's bridging a DIN tube fitting to a metric port, not two identical connection types. Worth noting before you go to put it in.

Trying to replace an old adapter, is this one male on both ends and M42 x 2.0 on each side?

Fit wise, it is a straight steel adapter with male connections on both sides, and both ends are called out as M42 x 2.0. Side 1 is a DIN tube connection in size S30, and Side 2 is a metric male in 42 mm.
