does this thing need any thread tape or sealant to get a good seal, or is it good to go as-is?

No additional sealant or thread tape is needed. The soft seal design on the female DIN Tube end handles the sealing on its own, so you can make up the connection without any extra prep on that side. The male JIC end seals on the 37-degree flare seat the way standard JIC fittings do, which also doesn't require sealant. Just make sure both mating surfaces are clean and in good shape before assembly.
