got a metric fitting on my equipment and need to tie into a JIC line, this straight adapter, it's gonna handle that without me having to mess with extra hardware or valves, right?

Correct setup for exactly that situation. One end is a 3/8" male JIC running a 9/16-18 UNF thread, and the other is a female M16 x 1.5 DIN tube connection. No check valves, no adjustments needed. It's a straight-through adapter, so you're connecting those two standards directly with nothing extra in the way.
