does this fitting work with a -4 hose, or is that the hose end size i need to match up on my end?

The hose end on this fitting is sized for -4 dash hose, which works out to 1/4 inch hose. The male pipe thread on the other end is also 1/4 inch MPT. So if your hose is -4 and your port or valve takes a 1/4 male pipe thread, this is the right piece for that connection.

what's the corrosion resistance like on these fittings, are they gonna hold up outside or in wet conditions?

Dura-Kote plating is applied to these fittings specifically to fight off corrosion in tough environments.
