Both ends on this thing are 3/8 BSPP, one male, one female, so would it work for extending an existing BSPP fitting out a bit further on a port?

That's what it's built for. One end is male BSPP and the other is female BSPP, both G 3/8 - 19, so you can thread it onto an existing male BSPP port and gain some additional reach. The 36.6mm length gives you a meaningful extension compared to a standard-length bushing, which is where the "extended" part of the name comes in. Steel construction holds up fine in typical industrial hydraulic connections situations where BSPP connections are common.

trying to hook a 3/8 BSPP male line into a 3/8 BSPP female port, is this bushing the right deal?

For a straight BSPP to BSPP connection, it matches what you described. Side 1 is G 3/8 - 19 male and Side 2 is G 3/8 - 19 female, both 3/8 inch BSPP.
