trying to connect a JIC fitting on one end to a metric flat face port on the other, this the right part for that?

That's what this adapter is built for. One end is a 3/4-16 UNF male JIC, which is your 1/2 inch JIC side, and the other end is a female M20 x 1.5 metric flat face. So if you've got a JIC line meeting a Chinese metric flat face port, this bridges that gap in a straight configuration. Steel construction, 28.7mm in length, 27mm wrench width.
