Trying to hook a BSPP male port to a JIC hose end, is this the right adapter or am I mixing up thread types?

For that exact mix, it matches up: Side 1 is a male BSPP with a G 5/8 - 14 thread, and Side 2 is a female JIC swivel with a 7/8 - 14 UNF thread. It is a straight steel adapter meant to join those two connection types.
