trying to hook a 3/4 JIC line to a 1 inch JIC port, is this the right adapter?

For that size step, it matches what you described. Side 1 is a 3/4 inch male JIC with a 1-1/16 - 12 UN thread callout, and side 2 is a 1 inch female JIC swivel with a 1-5/16 - 12 UN callout.
