Reckon this'll work to step up a line from 1/4" to 1/2" on my tractor?

This Adaptall fitting is indeed designed to connect a 1/4" male BSPP thread to a 1/2" female BSPP thread. It's made of steel, so it should hold up well in general hydraulic applications. Just be sure your threads are BSPP.

got a pump with a G 1/4 male port and the hose i need to hook up is G 1/2, is this the piece that steps it up?

It bridges a G 1/4 - 19 male BSPP on one side to a G 1/2 - 14 female BSPP on the other, so it works as a straight step-up adapter between those two BSPP thread sizes.
