trying to hook a 5/16 jic male line to a 3/8 bspt port, is this the right adapter or am i mixin threads up

For cross-thread hookups like that, this adapter is the straight steel piece that bridges a 5/16 inch JIC male with 1/2-20 UNF threads on one end to a 3/8 inch BSPT male with R 3/8-19 threads on the other.

Got a line running JIC on one end and the other end's got British pipe taper threads, will this thing bridge that gap straight across?

That's what it's built for. One end is a 5/16" JIC male (1/2-20 UNF thread) and the other is a 3/8" BSPT male (R 3/8-19 thread), so it connects those two thread standards directly in a straight configuration. No adapting in stages or hunting down a middle piece. Adaptall machines it from steel, so it holds up in standard industrial hydraulic setups without any fuss.
