Got a machine running SAE O-Ring Boss ports and the other end needs to tie into a BSPP line. This the right piece for that?

That's what this adapter is built for. One end is a 7/8-14 UNF SAE O-Ring Boss male, and the other is a G 5/8-14 BSPP male, so it bridges those two thread standards in one compact fitting. Both sides are 5/8 inch, the body is steel, and it comes in at 39.3mm long and 29mm wide, so it won't take up much room in a tight hydraulic connections layout. Made by Adaptall, part number 9006-10-10.

Will this here fitting hold up okay for hooking up a hydraulic cylinder on my backhoe?

Built for mixed-fitting hookups, it gives you a straight male SAE O-Ring Boss on one side and a straight male BSPP on the other, so you can bridge those two thread styles in the same hydraulic connection.
