got a hose end that’s 1/2 JIC male, and the port i need to hit is 5/8 BSPP. is this the right adapter for that?

For a straight JIC to BSPP changeover, it matches those sizes: 1/2 inch Male JIC with 3/4-16 UNF on one side, and 5/8 inch Male BSPP with G 5/8-14 on the other.

Got a piece of European equipment that uses a G 5/8-14 port and I need to tie it into a JIC line on the hydraulic circuit. This the right adapter for that kind of hookup?

Yeah, that's exactly what this one's built for. One end is 1/2" Male JIC with a 3/4-16 UNF thread, and the other is 5/8" Male BSPP running a G 5/8-14 thread. Straight profile, steel construction, and it goes in without needing any extra fittings in between. The elastomeric seal handles the leak resistance side of things, so you're not depending on thread engagement alone to keep fluid where it belongs.
